Brazil Prepares To Export Fish To Russia

Published on January 31, 2026

Fish processing enterprises in Brazil are preparing to export their products to Russia, with specialists from the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) planning to inspect five Brazilian fish processing enterprises in February for compliance with Russian requirements, Rosselkhoznadzor has said.

There are no Brazilian enterprises in the Russian register of certified fish suppliers, with the five companies concerned possibly becoming the first certified for export to Russia if they successfully pass the inspections.   Brazil’s fish exports are heavily dominated by aquaculture, with tilapia accounting for roughly 92–95% of total export value.  Key exported products include fresh, frozen, and whole tilapia fillets.  Currently, Brazil supplies mainly meat products, cheese, feed, and feed additives for animals to Russia.

Brazilian fish product manufacturers are showing growing interest in obtaining Russian market access, with one of the major suppliers of fish products to Russia from Latin America being Chile (in fourth place in Russia’s total fish imports). According to the Russian Fish Union, a total of 64,000 tonnes of fish products—an increase of 28% over the previous year—worth US$350 million were imported to Russia in 2025.
