Russia’s FESCO transport group has transported a record volume batch of over 9,000 tonnes of peas during August, from southern Russia to China. FESCO stated that “The delivery was carried out with the leading exporter ‘Sila Sibiri’ using the regular FESCO Black Sea Service (FBSS) on the Novorossiysk Qingdao route.”

This is part of the integrated FESCO Agro logistics service, which was created specifically for Russian farmers. The plans for the future include further increasing the volume of transportation and expanding the range of exported crops. The demand for plant protein is growing in China and Asia, with Russian farmers expanding their cultivated areas to meet demand.

Russia is a major global producer and exporter of dry peas, ranking as the world’s leading producer in and experiencing significant growth in its harvest. Russia produced 4.7 million tons of the product during the 2023/2024 agricultural year.

Key drivers for this expansion include increased planted areas, particularly in the Stavropol and Krasnodar regions, in addition to growing domestic and international demand, especially from China and India.

Russia’s agricultural sector accounts for about 6% of its total annual GDP.
