Russia and Pakistan are discussing a regular air service between the two countries, and intend to increase the frequency of flights and broaden their geographic reach, according to Sergey Zverev, the Russian Deputy Minister of Transport. That will introduce a direct air service between Moscow and Islamabad. The statement was made after the Russia-Pakistan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
Direct services are expected from early 2025.
Part of the need is an anticipated increase in Russia-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation, which is seeing the potential of significant involvement for Russian energy firms in Pakistan’s energy sector. In addition, Russia-Pakistan overland trade is also increasing along the trans-Caspian branch of the INSTC via the Caspian Sea and Iran, with agricultural produce transiting in both directions.
