The gradual emergence and importance of the International North-South Transportation Corridor (INSTC) is making itself felt, with Russia’s Krasnodar Territory, one of the largest agricultural regions in the country, exporting 252,000 tonnes of sunflower oil to Iran last year, according to the Novorossiysk branch of the Federal Center for Assessing the Safety and Quality of Agricultural Products (TsOK APK).

Exports of sunflower oil to Iran from Krasnodar had reached 33,000 tonnes in 2024, meaning that export volumes to Iran grew 7.6-fold.

TsOK APK added that “Significant growth was also noted with regard to Syria. Shipments to this country reached 12,970 tonnes, which is three times higher than the previous year’s figure.”

The branch’s specialists provided laboratory support for the exports. The sunflower oil is tested in accordance with the technical regulations of the Customs Union, as well as taking into account the requirements of importing countries.

Svetlana Zinchenko, the head of the testing laboratory of TsOK APK’s Novorossiysk branch, said that “In our laboratories, the product is checked for the presence of residual pesticides, heavy metals, mycotoxins, and radionuclides. A detailed analysis of chemical indicators and testing for the presence of genetically modified organisms is also carried out.”

Overall, 1.3 million tonnes of sunflower oil were exported from Krasnodar in 2025. The largest buyers of this product are Iran, along with Turkiye and India—also both INSTC-linked markets.
