Russia’s FESCO Transportation Group has sent container trains from Kurgan, in the southern Russian Urals, to Tianjin, on the northeast China coast, for the first time, according to a company statement.
Two trains carrying cereal crops headed to Tianjin via Kazakhstan and the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing. Each train consists of 62 forty-foot containers. Total transport volume amounts to 248 TEU. The average transit time from Kurgan to Tianjin is 20 days.

FESCO is considering the possibility of further container train shipments from Kurgan to other export destinations, allowing for the expansion of export logistics for numerous local businesses. The Kurgan region has developed mainly on the basis of subindustries associated with the processing of agricultural production and the assembly and packaging of finished products. The food industry is well developed here, with meatpacking plants, mills, creameries, and powdered milk factories.
A new container yard with a capacity of 300 TEU opened at Kurgan station in January 2025, according to a South Ural Railway report. The first train with grain departed for Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station (Primorsky Krai) for further transport to China. During 2025, container turnover at Kurgan station increased by 23% compared to the previous year and totaled almost 10,000 TEU by the end of 2025.
