Russia’s Pivot To Asia has taken a tentative look back over its shoulder to the West as Norway appeared among the buyers of Russian margarine for the first time in 2025, according to the Russian Agroexport Federal Center.
Margarine products worth more than 21 million krone (€1.86 million) were shipped to the Norwegian market, Agroexport said, citing Norwegian customs data.
In total, Russia exported margarine worth US$386 million in 2025, up 27% compared to the previous year . In physical terms, exports remained at the level of 2024—almost 229,000 tonnes.
The main buyer was Kazakhstan, with imports worth more than US$106 million. Revenue from exports to Uzbekistan exceeded US$52 million, to Tajikistan US$46 million, to Belarus US$46 million, and to Azerbaijan almost US$33 million. Also, after a hiatus beginning in 2022, supplies to the UAE resumed and amounted to almost US$600,000. According to Rosstat data, Russia’s fat and oil industry produced 467,000 tonnes of margarine in 2025, up 2.4% from the previous year.
