The Azerbaijani and Russian prime ministers, Shahin Mustafayev and Alexei Overchuk, have met in Baku, with both expressing satisfaction with the progress of joint projects in investment, industry, transport, energy, customs, and other areas.
The Azerbaijani government stated after the meeting that “The discussions focused on the current state and prospects for the development of Azerbaijani-Russian economic cooperation in various areas. Trade between the two countries increased by more than 10% in 2024. This positive trend has continued this year: over the first eight months, growth was 13.5%, reaching US$3.35 billion. Freight traffic along the North-South International Transport Corridor rose 8.3% in the first nine months of 2025. Road traffic grew 10.4%, while rail traffic grew by 2%. In the context of strengthening transport links, particular attention was paid to the development of the North-South international transport corridor, and the importance of synchronized implementation of work to expand infrastructure along the corridor and ensure sustainable growth in freight traffic was emphasized. Agricultural exports from Azerbaijan to Russia rose 15% in 8M 2025.”

The two sides also exchanged views on the effective use of existing cooperation potential, further expansion of bilateral relations, and implementation of new joint initiatives.
They noted “the importance of the trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia held in Baku and expressed confidence that the negotiations and decisions made would contribute to the further strengthening of cooperation in relevant areas and benefit all three countries and the region as a whole.”
Azerbaijan and Russia are both part of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which encourages trade between members.
