Russia Begins Exporting Fish To Brazil

Published on February 8, 2026

Russia has begun exporting fish to Brazil, Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut has stated. Speaking during a Russian trade delegation event in Brasilia, she said, “We have begun supplying our fish to the Brazilian market. So far, the amounts are very small. We primarily see potential in pollock, cod, and herring.”

Lut also noted that Brazil has high import duties on this product. “We therefore have something to discuss here with our Brazilian colleagues. So far, the market is in its initial development stage.”

Russian fishermen last year harvested a record amount of pollock, which exceeded 2 million tonnes out of a total harvest of 4.7 million tonnes of biological resources.

Since 2019, the demand for fish in Brazil has increased by 2.5% annually. In 2025, Brazil ranked 26th globally in fish consumption.  Brazilians typically use fish such as those provided by Russia in fish stews and ceviche

Concerning Russian imports of Brazilian soybeans, which have previously been a significant share in mutual trade, Lut said that they are now declining amid a record harvest in Russia last year, adding that “Russia’s own production has now fully provided for its own soybean needs. Imports of Brazilian beef will also decrease due to production growing within Russia.”

In addition to trade, cooperation between Russia and Brazil in the agricultural sector will develop in the scientific and technical sphere, in the implementation of joint projects in breeding and genetics, Lut said.
