Russia, Chile To Discuss Fish Import Regulatory Issues

Chile

Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) and the Chilean equivalent agency will hold talks on fish supplies at the end of this month.

Sergei Dankvert, the Rosselkhoznadzor CEO, said that “Konstantin Savenkov, the deputy head of Rosselkhoznadzor, will lead our talks on Chile at the international fish forum in St. Petersburg at the end of October. The head of the Chilean service will be attending.” He was speaking at the Golden Autumn 2025 agricultural exhibition in Moscow.

Rosselkhoznadzor had filed complaints regarding fish supplies from Chile, specifically related to discrepancies in the accompanying documentation for the products, namely that the information on the labels and veterinary certificates differed. Rosselkhoznadzor specialists have subsequently been conducting visits to several Chilean fish processing plants to help them fulfill requirements when exporting to the Russian market.

Chile’s top five fish export markets in 2024 were the United States, Japan, Brazil, China, and Russia, with Chile exporting mainly salmon and trout to Russia.
