Russian oil major Rosneft and China have signed an agreement on additional supplies of 2.5 million metric tons of oil per year via Kazakhstan, according to Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, who stated, “The agreement was also signed by Rosneft and its Chinese counterparts on the additional delivery of 2.5 million metric tons of oil via Kazakhstan.”

The Russian government approved earlier the protocol on amendments to the intergovernmental agreement with China, providing for the opportunity of increasing Russian oil supplies to China by 2.5 million metric tons.

Last year, China purchased a record of more than 100 million tonnes of Russian crude oil, which accounted for almost 20% of its total energy imports.

This energy supply chain agreement comes hot on the heels of Russia’s mega gas agreement with China, with supplies transiting Mongolia with the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, earlier this week.
