Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said the country was making progress in talks with Moscow and Belgrade on building a new oil pipeline between Hungary and Serbia.

Szijjarto said, “While Brussels is blocking Russian energy supplies, cutting off connections, and blocking routes, we need new sources and new routes. Hungary will not fall victim to these catastrophic decisions.”

According to Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs, it will be built and operational by 2027. Kovacs said that plans are underway to build a 180-km oil pipeline with a capacity of 5 million tons per year.

In 2022, Hungary and Serbia signed an agreement to build an oil pipeline through Hungary. It will supply Russian oil from the Druzhba pipeline to Serbian consumers. The new pipeline will be built between the Hungarian city of Algyo and the Serbian city of Novi Sad.
