Russia increased exports of poultry meat and by-products 3.5-fold to values of over US$51 million in 2025 and 2.4-fold in weight terms to over 35,000 tonnes, according to the Russian Agroexport Federal Center.
The main buyer was Benin, which imported US$21 million of the produce. The Democratic Republic of Congo purchased almost US$11 million, Ghana US$6 million, Mozambique US$4 million, and Guinea more than US$3 million.
The Agroexport stated that “2025 will be remembered as the first year that poultry meat and by-products were supplied to the Central African Republic and Sudan. Apart from this, exports to Sierra Leone and Djibouti were resumed for the first time since they paused in 2017, as well as exports to Tanzania for the first time since 2020, Gambia for the first time since 2018, and Morocco and Togo for the first time since 2023.”
Chicken is a primary and rapidly growing source of protein across Africa, driven by urbanization and affordability, with consumption expected to rise significantly by 2033. South Africa leads in consumption, averaging roughly 35-47 kg per capita annually, making up 49-60% of total meat consumption, while other African nations are also seeing high demand.
