Russia, Indonesia, Sign MoU On Joint Shipbuilding & Agriculture Projects

Indonesia

Russia and Indonesia have signed a memorandum of cooperation in shipbuilding, providing the necessary regulatory framework for developing cooperation. Details of the agreement have not been provided. The agreement was signed between Anton Alikhanov, the Russian Trade & Industry Minister, and Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, his Indonesian counterpart.

Alikanov said that the parties had confirmed their mutual interest in solidifying collaboration in all key areas, including agriculture. “Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the chemical industry, including increasing supplies of Russian mineral fertilizer to Indonesian farmers. Trade turnover between our countries has grown 80% over the past five years to US$4.3 billion in 2024. The positive trend has continued, with mutual trade rising nearly 18% to US$3.6 billion in January to October 2025. It is noteworthy that industrial products account for approximately 40% of the volume.”

Alikanov’s quoted trade statistics imply that Russia-Indonesia bilateral trade will reach about US$4.32 billion for 2025, a very small increase over 2024. This is why the two ministers have been discussing ways to boost this further.  Indonesia is a full member of BRICS and is in the final stages of agreeing a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union.
