Russia–Kazakhstan To Open Cross-Border Logistics Centre In Astrakhan

A cross-border trade center will be created at the Kazakhstan-Russia border, as announced during a meeting between Kanat Khasenov, the Consul General of Kazakhstan in Astrakhan, and Igor Babushkin, the Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan region.

Babushkin noted that the Republic of Kazakhstan is one of the main partners of Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast (Province) with strong trade, economic, and humanitarian ties well established. Astrakhan is closely linked with trade ties with Atyrau, Mangistau, and the west Kazakhstan regions. Future plans include developing ties with east Kazakhstan. The main border crossing is the Astrakhan-Atyrau route.

The Border Trade Center is a transport and logistics hub for warehousing, processing and further transportation of goods along international trade routes. The complex is designed to help increase the speed of delivery, as well as reduce the cost of expenses in the transportation of goods.

Russia remains one of Kazakhstan’s main trade and economic partners. This year, trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan grew, reaching nearly US$30 billion.
