India-Pak-Rus

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov has held telephone discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, at the initiative of the Pakistan government, on May 4th. The parties specifically discussed the dangerously growing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. The Russian side stressed its readiness to contribute to a political settlement of the situation triggered by the April 22 attacks in Kashmir, should both Islamabad and New Delhi wish to have mediation. Lavrov spoke with the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, two days earlier. Russia has asked that both sides resolve their differences by following the 1972 Simla Agreement and the 1999 Lahore Declaration.

The two sides have also been subject to United Nations security council discussions with the UN Secretary-General asking them both to stand down their respective militaries.
