Russia To Provide Diesel Generators For Egypt’s El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

Russia’s TMH Energy Solutions, or TMH ES, part of Transmashholding, will supply a batch of diesel generators to the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, currently under construction in Egypt, according to CEO Andrei Vasiliev.

He said that “diesel generating backup is an important part of ensuring any nuclear power plant can be used safely, and El Dabaa is no exception. We are providing the El Dabaa NPP with diesel generators, which we have produced ourselves. The contract that we signed covers four units, and we will begin delivering them at the end of this year. The generators and auxiliary systems are currently in the active stage of production.”

Vasiliev said that 20 diesel generators would be installed at El Dabaa NPP under the contract, with five at each of its four units, and added, “We supply equipment not only to El Dabaa NPP but also to a whole range of other power plants that are being built, and we are constantly interacting with clients connected with Rosatom’s new sites. One project in Kazakhstan attracted our interest, and we have signed an agreement on it with Rosatom, as with all of Rosatom’s prospective projects.”

TMH Energy Solutions is a center for the development and production of both individual components and all-in-one solutions across all transport categories, including rail, wheel, and water transport, as well as stationary power supply facilities for use as principal energy sources and reserves. The company also develops solutions for transport hybridization and exploration of promising types of fuel, including gas and hydrogen.

The intergovernmental agreement on the construction of El Dabaa NPP, the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, was concluded in November 2015, and the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract was signed in 2016. The design for the power station includes four 1200-MW power units with VVER-1200 reactors. Rosatom Group plans to commission the first unit in 2028.
