Russian 2025 Agricultural Exports To Iraq Up 2.2 Times

Published on February 4, 2026

Russia exported agricultural products to Iraq worth US$178 million in 2025, up 2.2-fold from the previous year, while in physical terms supplies increased 2.1-fold to almost 750,000 tonnes, the Russian Agroexport federal center has said.

Wheat made up the largest share in exports at almost 400,000 tonnes. More than 108,000 tonnes of barley were exported along with 91,000 tonnes of other grains, around 61,000 tonnes of flour, and over 28,000 tonnes of millet.

Exports of Russian agricultural products to Iraq have increased 37 times in physical terms over the past five years.

Iraq’s grain imports, primarily wheat and rice for its Public Distribution System (PDS), are experiencing shifts due to increased domestic production, with 2024/25 wheat imports projected around 2-2.4 MMT, down from higher previous levels. While aiming for self-sufficiency, Iraq remains a major importer, pivoting towards Russian wheat and sourcing significant flour from Turkiye.

The improving agricultural trade volumes between Russia and Iraq are also a result of the International North-South Transport Corridor, which runs between Russia and Iran via the Caspian Sea but also has an offshoot from Iran to Iraq. Supplies of other commodities can also be expected to increase as a result of improved transport connectivity.

Russia is the world’s largest wheat exporter, consistently leading global supplies and accounting for over 20% of international trade. In the 2024-2025 agricultural year, Russia exported 42.6 million tons of wheat. Other top global wheat exporters include Australia, Canada, and the United States.
