Turkmenistan is not a member of either the Eurasian Economic Union or the Commonwealth of Independent States, although it is an observer to the latter. It does however cooperate with regional infrastructure developments such as the Middle Corridor and the INTSC. Bilateral trade thus far during 2025 has increased by 58%, and is expected to reach about US$2.84 billion for the year.

The overall trend in Turkmenistan-Russia bilateral trade is likely to further improve as logistics connectivity, infrastructure projects, and the potential for transit trade become operational.
