Russian sweet manufacturers have increased their confectionery exports to Kazakhstan by 14% year-on-year to reach over US$360 million in value during the first eight months of 2025, according to Ilya Ilyushin, the CEO of Russia’s Agroexport. He was speaking during an export promotional trip to Kazakhstan.
Ilyushin said that confectionery was the main non-energy product exported by Russia to Kazakhstan this year, with around 113,000 tonnes delivered in 8M, followed by beverages.
About US$163 million of export revenue came from flour-based baked goods, over US$156 million from chocolate, and around US$42 million from sugary confectionery.
Kazakhstan has a strong confectionery market with a total value of around US$750 million, with consumption at about 350,000 tons per year. This indicates high per capita consumption, which is supported by a large import market because domestic production doesn’t fully meet demand. The Kazakh market has seen steady growth, with annual increases in sugar and confectionery consumption of 2.6% during 2023 and 2024.
