Russia’s Agroeco Group, one of the countries largest pork producers, has begun exporting pork products to Liberia and the Republic of Congo (ROC), with the group having shipped the first containers of pork legs to the two African countries.
Agroeco began exporting pork offal to the nearby Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in August 2024, having shipped over 400 tonnes of products to the country since then.
Agroeco’s Commercial Director Dmitry Alekseyev said “We are expanding our presence in international markets. Deliveries to Africa are important areas for the company’s product sales, as well as an excellent opportunity to increase the country’s export potential and the attractiveness of Russian products on the international market.”
Alekseyev said that the company would continue to develop exports by increasing the volume of supplies and the geography of sales in line with its strategic plans. The company nearly doubled exports of processed meat products and live animals to around 27,000 tonnes in the January-November period last year.
Established in 2009 in Voronezh, Agroeco Group has production sites in Voronezh and Tula. The group includes pig-breeding sites, a selection and genetic centre, feed mills, a crop cluster, motor transport enterprises, a dairy farm, a meat processing plant, and a network of branded stores. Sales of pork products to Africa must be carefully planned, not just in hygiene, sanitation, processing and chilled or frozen transport and warehousing capabilities, but also in understanding of which client countries can accept pork as part of the local diet.
85% of Liberia’s population is Christian, 87% in the Republic of Congo, and 95% in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are an estimated 760 million Christians from all denominations in Africa, with about 52% of Africans being Christian, 44% Muslim and the remainder regional religions.
