Supplies of Russian chemical industry products to India increased 66.2% in 2025, the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry has stated, adding that “the basis of Russian exports in this quantity is mineral fertilizers—they account for 90% of supplies.” Rubber products and organic chemical products, plastic products, and inorganic chemical products are also in demand.”

The mutual chemical trade turnover between Russia and India amounted to US$3.266 billion in 2025, up 35.6% compared to the previous year. The total trade turnover between Russia and India amounted to around US$65 billion in both 2024 and 2025.

However, steps are being taken to improve this. For example, the Chemtech World Expo 2026 has been taking place in India, with a Russian delegation, headed by Alexei Artemyev of the Russian Industry and Trade Ministry’s Chemical Industry Department, taking part. 15 Russian companies have stands at Chemtech, while more than 200 bilateral meetings have taken place with Indian partners, according to the ministry.

India’s fertilizer imports are projected to reach a record US$18 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year due to increased demand driven by strong monsoons and higher crop planting, following a US$10.23 billion spend previously. Urea, DAP, and phosphate rock are the primary imports, with major suppliers including Russia, Saudi Arabia, and China.
