Russian Exports Of Poultry Products To Benin Up 3.6 Times In 2025

Benin

Russia increased revenue from exports of agricultural products to Benin 6.8-fold in 2025 to over US$21 million in value, reaching a new historical record compared to the previous record of US$20.9 million in 2022, according to the Agroexport federal centre. In physical terms, exports increased 3.6-fold to 9,000 tonnes.

The basis of the export revenue was turkey parts and offal, shipments of which amounted to more than US$20 million. Chicken carcasses accounted for over US$400,000 and ready-to-eat turkey meat products for over US$220,000.

These amounts may seem small; however, there has to be a trade beginning at some point, and Russia is making trade inroads into nearly all of the continents and 54 countries at a time when European exporters are withdrawing. The African consumer market is also growing both in size and in wealth. Populations are set to reach an estimated 2.1 billion by 2040, while a transition towards more meat consumption is also occurring.

Benin Map

As reported previously by Damate Group, A leading turkey meat producer in Russia, Benin is among the company’s export destinations. In total, the group has approval to supply its products to more than 60 countries worldwide and has been concentrating its efforts on Halal markets. Benin is 50% Christian but has a vibrant Muslim population equating to about 25% of its total 15 million.

Dishes such as Smoked Chicken in Sauce (Moyo de Poulet Fumé) and Mashed Yams are popular in Benin.

Poultry consumption in Africa is growing, driven by urbanization and its affordability, with chicken being the continent’s most popular meat, though per capita consumption remains low globally, particularly in sub-Saharan regions. South Africa leads consumption with high per capita intake (around 35 kg/year), where chicken is favored over red meat due to cost, while demand across the continent is expected to rise significantly by 2050, making poultry crucial for future food security.
