Russia exported over 911,000 tonnes of meat and meat products in 2025, up 10.6% year-on-year, according to the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said, citing data from the Veterinary Information System (FGIS VetIS).

Exports of poultry meat and edible offal increased 7.2% to 409,500 tonnes from 382,100 tonnes in 2024. The main importer was China, to which 154,800 tonnes were shipped. A total of 76,800 tonnes were sent to Saudi Arabia and 44,700 tonnes to Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan increased purchases 2.5-fold to 23,000 tonnes, Kyrgyzstan – 4.1-fold to 15,000 tonnes, Congo – almost 1.5-fold to 7,900 tonnes, Tajikistan – 48.3% to 7,700 tonnes and Ghana – 5.5-fold to 7,100 tonnes.

Exports of pork grew 22.7% to 270,500 tonnes, from 220,500 tonnes in 2024. The main buyer was Belarus, which increased purchases by almost a third to over 131,000 tonnes. Exports to Vietnam increased 15.2% to 52,300 tonnes, to Kazakhstan – almost 1.7-fold to 11,300 tonnes and to Georgia – 1.5-fold to 3,500 tonnes.

A total of 76,100 tonnes of pig farming products were exported to China in 2025. This is twice the amount of 2024. However, in 2024, imports from Russia began only in April. In particular, pork supplies increased 1.7-fold to 36,600 tonnes and supplies of pork offal rose 2.2-fold to 39,500 tonnes.

In addition, 84,100 tonnes of finished meat products were exported, with the largest amount (47,400 tonnes) sent to Kazakhstan.

Beef exports amounted to 33,300 tonnes. The main buyer was China at 18,500 tonnes, up 5.6% compared to a year earlier. Saudi Arabia increased imports 16.2% to 5,600 tonnes.

Shipments of live animals increased 1.7-fold, from 398,000 head to 694,200 head. Azerbaijan purchased 116,700 head of small ruminants (sheep, goats), while Georgia purchased 5,700 head. Exports of cattle amounted to 106,600 head to Uzbekistan, 24,000 head to Kyrgyzstan and 63,800 head to Azerbaijan. Exports of live pigs increased 12% to 291,200 head from 260,000 head, respectively. The largest amount was sent to Georgia (194,100 head), and to Armenia (93,300 head).

According to Rosselkhoznadzor data, exports of dairy products amounted to 191,900 tonnes. The largest amount was purchased by Kazakhstan, at over 83,500 tonnes.

Exports of fish and seafood exceeded 1.5 million tonnes. A total of 843,000 tonnes of raw fish were shipped to China and 363,100 tonnes to South Korea.

Brazil, the USA, Australia, and India lead global meat exports, with Brazil consistently topping the list for beef and overall meat volume, followed by major players like the U.S. (beef, poultry), Australia (beef), and India (buffalo meat, sold as beef). The Netherlands and Canada also feature prominently, especially for bovine meat, while countries like China, the EU, Argentina, and New Zealand are significant exporters of specific meat types or markets.

Russia’s meat export industry is intent on providing competition to the global meat consumer market.

Global meat consumption is rising, projected to hit over 460 million tonnes annually by 2050, driven by population growth, but facing stagnation in high-income nations due to environmental/health concerns. Poultry is leading growth, while Asia and Latin America drive production, though trade and sustainability are key factors. Countries like Tonga, Mongolia, and the U.S. rank high in per capita intake.
