Russia’s exports of molasses rose 2.2 fold in 2025, to reach nearly US$58 million in value. In physical terms, shipments increased 28% to 555,000 tonnes, the Agroexport federal center has said.
Molasses are derived from sugar beet and are used as a sweetener in numerous consumable products from beer to sauces and baking.
The main export revenue came from supplies to Turkiye, valued at US$39 million, while exports to Egypt stood at more than US$2.5 million and exports to Tunisia totaled more than US$2 million. Russia also exported molasses to Estonia and Latvia and were shipped to India and Abkhazia for the first time.
While relatively small in terms of volumes and revenues, the export of these types of products is illustrative of Russia diversifying its agricultural export products and getting involved in new product areas.
Global molasses consumption reached approximately 60 million tons in 2025 and has been increasing, with major demand stemming from animal feed, industrial fermentation (ethanol/biofuel), and food production. Top consumers include Brazil, India, and Thailand, which together account for 52% of global volume.
