Russia boosted exports of veterinary vaccines 1.7-fold year-on-year to nearly US$43 million in 11M 2025, the Agriculture Ministry’s Agroexport centre has stated, implying full-year exports worth US$47 million.

The top three buyers of Russian vaccines were Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Uganda.

Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) at the Veterinary Safety International Forum in November also reported that 32.1 billion doses of domestically produced vaccines were introduced into circulation in Russia in 2024 compared to 19.1 billion in 2023. Imports decreased to 15.5 billion doses from 19.4 billion, respectively.

The share of domestically produced vaccines rose to 67.4% in 2024 from 49.6% in 2023 and further increased to 72.6% in H1 2025.

Veterinary vaccines are biological preparations that immunise animals against infectious diseases, crucial for companion pets and livestock, protecting them from illnesses like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus while also preventing zoonotic diseases (spreading to humans).

Russia is undergoing a huge national shift to localise as much of its consumption needs as is possible, to reduce reliance on imports and especially imports from the West.
