Russia’s Arctic Container Turnover Increases 8.8%

Russia’s container turnover in its Arctic basin ports increased by 8.2% year-on-year compared to November 2024. According to the industry watchdog PORTSTAT, 97.4% of Russia’s Arctic-based containers moved in coastal trade, which also grew by 6%.

The data confirms the increasing use of Russia’s Arctic ports and Northern Sea Route traffic.

Imports of Arctic-bound containers increased 5.8 times, while exports were 50% higher than the previous year.

The Arctic basin’s share of the total container turnover of all Russian seaports was 3.2% in November 2025. Loaded container processing increased by 2.5%. Refrigerated containers accounted for 6.1% of loaded containers, with 93.9% being dry containers.

Empty container handling increased by 24.8%. In November 2025, Murmansk held a 34.6% share of the Arctic basin’s container turnover, followed by Dudinka at 29.5% and Pevek at 15.4%.
