Russia’s Baltika Breweries To Start Beer Export To India

Russia’s Baltika Breweries, based in St. Petersburg, is looking into the possibility of exporting to India, starting with Mumbai and Delhi.

The company has stated that “India’s exclusive importer of Baltika is preparing to be able to offer the company’s products to Indian consumers in 2026. The Indian market holds significant potential for international brands, including Russian brands, despite the challenging regulatory environment and the varied requirements of different localities. We plan to adapt our products to local specificities and gradually expand our presence in key states. We are currently considering several potentially attractive states to export our products to—the Maharashtra and Delhi regions.”

Baltika is planning to sell its line of numbered Baltika beers to Indian consumers as well as create new beers. The main challenges that it expects to face in entering the Indian market are the differing laws in each individual state and import duties, while the country’s main appeal for the company nonetheless lies in the scale of the market and its high growth potential. At around 2 liters per capita, India is Asia’s lowest per capita beer consumer.

Baltika commented, “Despite these challenges, India remains one of the most promising markets thanks to its young population and currently low level of beer consumption. The country is traditionally oriented towards strong alcoholic drinks, but the younger generation is gradually moving towards drinks with a lower alcohol content.”

Baltika supplies its products to over 60 countries, including Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states, CIS countries, Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, Japan, China, New Zealand, and other states in the Asia-Pacific Region.

According to data from the Russian Federal Alcohol and Tobacco Market Regulation Service, Baltika accounted for around 25% of Russia’s total beer exports in the first eight months of 2025. It is the second-largest beer company in Russia, operating eight plants and two malthouses.

Baltika was owned by Denmark’s Carlsberg Group for many years but was sold to its Russian management in 2024 following Carlsberg’s exit from the Russian market. With profits now remaining in Russia, Baltika is able to develop the brand into other international markets.
