Russia boosted revenue from exports of sunflower oil to India 1.7-fold year-on-year to US$691 million and increased export volumes 43% year-on-year to 532,000 tonnes in January-April, according to the Agriculture Ministry’s Agroexport Center.

India was the leading importer of Russian sunflower oil in the first four months of 2026, with Turkiye, Iran, Belarus, and China rounding out the top five purchasers.

According to Rosstat, in 2025, Russia produced 7.2 million tons of sunflower oil and its unrefined fractions. This is 12.4% less than in 2024. Between January and April 2026, the production of sunflower oil and its fractions reached 2.7 million tons, an increase of 9.9% compared to the same period in 2025.

If the 4M sales trends in India continue during the rest of 2026, it will result in sales amounting to a value of US$2.07 billion and a volume of 1,596,000 tonnes.

According to India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Russia supplied 1,298,000 tonnes of sunflower oil to the Indian market in 2025, down 33% year-on-year from 1,923,000 tonnes in 2024. Export revenue declined to US$1.57 billion from US$1.89 billion in 2024.

India imported a total of 2.89 million tonnes of sunflower oil valued at US$3.46 billion in 2025 versus 3.74 million tonnes worth US$3.70 billion in 2024, suggesting that Russia supplies about 50% of India’s total sunflower oil consumption. The product is used extensively in Indian cooking.
