Russia’s Wheat Gluten Exports To India Up Nine-Fold During 2025 Year-to-Date

Russia increased its exports of wheat gluten to India 9-fold year-on-year to over 1,500 tonnes in January-September 2025, while the value of the exports grew almost 7-fold to reach US$1.7 million, Russia’s Agroexport federal center reported. Russia started exporting this product to India in 2020.

India was the fourth biggest importer of wheat gluten from Russia in 9M 2025, behind Saudi Arabia, which purchased around 2,000 tonnes; Turkey, with over 3,500 tonnes; and Norway, with around 4,000 tonnes.

Wheat gluten is used in baking to improve dough elasticity, structure, and shelf life. The largest use is in baking, where it enhances the texture, strength, and volume of breads, buns, and other baked goods.
