A weekly passenger flight service between Damascus and Moscow resumed on Sunday (August 16) after being suspended for over 18 months, according to Syrian Airlines.
Flights from Damascus will depart at 2:20 a.m. local time on Sundays, and land at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time.
Flights from Moscow will depart at 8:40 a.m. Moscow time, and land in Damascus at 1:00 p.m. local time. According to the airline, a flight to Moscow costs about US$490 in economy class and US$870 in business class.
The direct air link between Damascus and Moscow was suspended in December 2024 amid the civil war. Russia exports about US$234 million in goods—such as seed oils, wood, and industrial products to Syria, which also has a significant need for infrastructure rebuild following extensive damage caused during the war. Bilateral economic and logistical ties are currently shifting following a landmark August 2026 agreement that transfers key civilian port and airport infrastructure back to Syrian administration. Bilateral trade can be expected to increase.
