The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin has extended the visa‑free entry to the Russian Federation for Chinese citizens until 31 December 2027. The relevant decree was signed on 20 July 2026 and published on the official legal information portal. The maximum stay under the regime is up to 30 days.
The regime is reciprocal: in May, China decided to extend the visa‑free regime with Russia until the end of 2027.
The issuance of mutual visa‑free travel between the two countries began in 2025. China introduced the regime for Russian citizens on 15 September, and Russia responded with a similar measure in December of the same year. This arrangement is intended to facilitate contacts in the business and tourism sectors.
Statistics confirm the growing interest in reciprocal travel. In 2025, China became the largest source market for inbound tourism to Russia: the number of tourist trips by Chinese citizens reached 834,460—this is more than 11 times higher than the figure for Saudi Arabia, which ranked second. China accounted for over 50% of all tourist entries to Russia that year.
In 2025, 504,900 Russian citizens visited China. According to the Chinese immigration service, from January to April 2026, Beijing alone welcomed 303,700 Russian citizens – 138.5% more than the same period of the previous year.
