Trade turnover between Russia and China rose 23% year-on-year in January-May 2026, according to Zhang Wei, the Chinese ambassador to Russia. Speaking at an event in Yekaterinburg, he stated that “this is also a very good figure that overall bilateral trade numbers are up nearly 23% over the first five months of the year compared to the same period last year. Cooperation is not limited to energy resources and is expanding into other areas, namely AI, the digital economy, the agro-industry, and others.”
China-Russia trade reached US$227.9 billion in 2025, surpassing the US$200 billion mark for the third consecutive year. If the current levels of trade remain during 2026, bilateral trade for the year will reach just over US$280 billion.
