Eurasian Economic Commission, Mongolia Discuss Interim Trade Agreement Protocols

Mikhail Cherekaev, the deputy director of the trade policy department of the Eurasian Economic Commission, took part in the ‘Financial and Trade Cooperation Instruments for Mongolia and Eurasia Cooperation’ session of the Mongolia to Eurasia Strategic Dialogue last Friday (July 3).

Questions regarding the development and deepening of trade and economic cooperation between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia after the entry into force of the Interim Trade Agreement were discussed. Representatives of business circles of the states of the Eurasian Economic Union, Mongolia, and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mongolia, as well as invited experts, took part in the event.

Cherekaev informed the participants of the meeting about the benefits created by the Interim Trade Agreement, as well as about the activities carried out by the parties to the agreement to unlock the potential of trade between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia.

He said that “We aim to ensure that the implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement with Mongolia is carried out effectively from the first day of its entry into force. In this regard, we conduct relevant work both within the Eurasian Economic Union and in cooperation with the Mongolian side. We have already agreed on holding specific activities and intend to implement a number of projects in various areas of cooperation.”

The Interim Trade Agreement will enter into force on 22 July. From the moment the Agreement enters into force, customs duties will be zeroed or reduced for each party in respect of 367 commodity subheadings. The agreement is concluded for 3 years with the possibility of automatic extension of validity for another three-year period.
