Russia Creating New International Arctic Station

Published on July 6, 2026

The Special Design and Technological Bureau for Electrochemistry, a division of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), will participate in the scientific coordination council to create the Snowflake International Arctic Station, USC has stated.

The Snowflake International Arctic Station project is intended to become a unique international platform for conducting scientific research in the Arctic and testing advanced life support technologies in extreme climatic conditions, as well as developing international scientific and technical cooperation. The station will function on the principles of environmental friendliness and energy autonomy, which places special requirements on the reliability and innovativeness of engineering solutions.

General Director Roman Pykhtin said that “It is a great honor and responsibility for the Special Design and Technological Bureau for Electrochemistry to be part of such an ambitious project as the Snowflake International Arctic Station. The Arctic is a territory of great opportunities and serious challenges, and we are ready to apply all our knowledge and experience so that the station becomes a model of reliability, energy efficiency, and scientific potential. Participation in the scientific coordination council opens new horizons for the implementation of our engineering solutions and the strengthening of the technological sovereignty of the country.”

The scientific coordination council is organized for the purpose of systematic coordination of work on the Snowflake International Arctic Station project, as well as within the framework of the execution of the trilateral agreement between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The council coordinates the work of the participants, determines the development strategy, forms prospective research and development and equipment supply plans, and prepares recommendations on funding and launching new research.
