Meetings have taken place between Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, the Uzbekistan Minister of Agriculture, and Artem Zdunov, the regional government head of Mordovia, a Russian Republic, in Tashkent. Abdurakhmonov said that the trade turnover in agricultural products between Uzbekistan and Russia reached US$1.55 billion in the seven months January–July 2026, representing a 31.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

Mordovia is a federal subject (republic) of Russia located in the Eastern European region. Its capital and largest city is Saransk. The region is known for its rich agriculture. Russian Republics have been encouraged by Moscow to develop their own trade ties with Russia’s close trade partners.

Abdurakhmonov stated that “We considered the development of trade in agricultural and food products, the establishment of direct ties between businesses of our two countries, and the implementation of joint projects. Special attention was paid to increasing the practical return from previously reached agreements. In particular, the discussion focused on sugar supplies, the promotion of Uzbek fruit and vegetable products in Russian retail chains, and the establishment of direct contacts between food industry enterprises.”

According to the Uzbek ministry, bilateral trade in agricultural and food products between Uzbekistan and Russia continues to grow, reaching US$2.3 billion in 2025, itself a 26.7% annual growth rate over 2024.

A separate area was cooperation with Russia’s Romodanovosakhar. The parties considered the possibility of increasing supplies of its products to Uzbekistan. Romodanovosakhar is located in Romodanovo in the Republic of Mordovia. The company processes sugar beets and produces sugar.
