Uzbekistan’s Investment, Industry and Trade Ministry and Russian online marketplace Wildberries have signed an investment agreement for the construction of a Class A logistics complex. The agreement was signed at the third Council of Regions of Russia and Uzbekistan, which is being held in Fergana.
The CEO of the Wildberries & Russ Group (RWB), Robert Mirzoyan announced on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum in June that the company planned to create a Central Asia logistics hub in Uzbekistan and invest over US$300 million in infrastructure. He said that in the next few years the hub would encompass Wildberries’ sorting center and a 170,000-square-meter warehouse complex being built in Tashkent, as well as infrastructure in other countries where the company has a presence. Class A logistics centres are state-of-the-art properties built specifically for warehousing and logistics and have not been converted or renovated for this purpose. They are designed and built from the ground up to benefit the supply chain, and are typically sited near mass-transport facilities such as airports, railways and highways.

Uzbek media reported that the Fergana forum also saw the signing of agreements on cooperation in industry between the Fergana and Omsk regions, and on trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Surkhandarya Region and Russia’s Krasnoyarsk. In addition, Namangan Region and Dagestan agreed on an action plan to implement their agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural cooperation.
Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev said at the forum’s plenary session that the portfolio of Russian-Uzbek cooperation projects currently includes more than 200 initiatives worth almost US$6 billion. All 14 of Uzbekistan’s regions maintain strong ties with over 50 Russian regions, he said, adding that Uzbekistan and Russia intend to expand direct collaboration between regions, industrial cooperation, and trade and investment cooperation.
The leaders and representatives of 17 Russian regions, representatives of all Uzbek regions and about 400 entrepreneurs from the two countries attended the forum. The fourth forum of the two countries’ regions will be held in Omsk.
