Maritime logistics between Russia and Brazil are developing and the trade turnover between the two countries is growing, with the mix of shipped goods expanding, Kremlin aide and head of the Maritime Collegium Nikolai Patrushev said after talks at Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports.
Patrushev stated that “Bilateral maritime logistics are gradually developing. The trade turnover between our countries is growing, the range of shipped goods is expanding, new container services are opening, and port administrations are gradually developing contacts.”
Maritime cooperation between Russia and Brazil dates back to the Soviet era, when an agreement on shipping was signed that enshrined the principle of most favored status for the two countries’ vessels in one another’s ports.
This agreement remains in force today, continuing to be a legal foundation on which modern partnership is being built. It is one of Russia’s oldest bilateral agreements with Brazil.
Russia-Brazil bilateral trade reached about US$14.9 billion in 2025, with about 90% of this in Russia’s favour. This was an annual growth rate of 6.6%. Brazil is keen to better balance the bilateral trade issues and export more items to Russia – hence the need to develop improved maritime logistics.
