Vladivostok Commercial Seaport Aims For 15% Increase In TEU Capacity By 2028

The Supervisory Board of the Vladivostok Commercial Seaport, (VMTP, part of the FESCO Group) has approved the port’s 2026-28 development program, according to the development outlook section of their 2025 annual report.

The development program outlines plans to:

  • Maintain VMTP’s long-term leadership in container turnover among stevedoring companies in Russia and the Russian Far East;
  • Reach a container processing capacity of 1.2 million TEU per year; (up from 805,000 TEU in 2025, an increase of about 15%)
  • Achieve an optimal capacity utilization level of 80% for VMTP;
  • Enhance the operational efficiency of the port and the FESCO Group’s logistics complex by reducing the average container storage time in the port;
  • Enable the accommodation of large container ships up to the Post-Panamax class (up to 8,500 TEU).

Vladivostok’s commercial seaport maintained its leadership in Russian container turnover for the sixth consecutive year in 2025, despite an 8% decline in this indicator last year to 805,000 TEU. It ranks among the largest universal ports in the Russian Far East, providing handling services for container, general, bulk, and Ro-Ro cargo. VMTP’s production capacities are located across 15 berths in the port of Vladivostok, with a total length of 3.2 km.

In total, Vladivostok Port handled over 1.6 million TEU in 2025, more than St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk, and indicative of the Russian trade trend to the east.
