Russia’s Khabarovsk Begins Exports Of Hardwood Veneer To India

India has received its first shipment of Russian hardwood veneer, totaling 1,480 cubic meters of product. It was exported from Khabarovsk to Chennai on India’s east coast. Wood veneer is used in wooden construction and furniture as a decorative or harder protective layer over cheaper wood varieties.

The Amur Forestry Company LLC, a division of RFP Group, sent its first trial samples of hardwood veneer to India and Turkiye in 2023. RFP is the largest forestry group in Russia’s Far East, and includes divisions that harvest and process timber and ship finished products. The group has the largest logging area in the region, with an annual allowable cut of 4.5 million cubic meters, harvesting capacity of 2 million cubic meters, five river ports, and its own river, sea and railway logistics through the Amur Shipping Company and a fleet of 140 river and marine vessels.

Russia and India have been exploring new trade sectors to diversify away from the current energy dominated trade. Russia has 20% of the world’s forestry reserves.
