Russia’s First Wholly Russian-Manufactured Aircraft Makes Maiden Flight

Russia’s MC-21-310 aircraft, built using entirely Russian-made components, has taken to the skies for the first time, the state-run Joint Aviation Corporation (OAK) has said. The development of the aircraft renders Western aviation sanctions against Russia increasingly redundant and has instead boosted Russian engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

Russia intends to raise over US$400 billion from domestic and overseas investors to complete its Transarctic Transport Corridor. That is about 30% of China’s total spending thus far on the Belt & Road Initiative. The majority of this funding is expected to come from the private sector.

Russia Proposes Payment For Bangladesh Trade Settlements In Indian Rupees

Bangladesh runs a substantial Rupee trade deficit with India, but doesn’t trade such huge amounts with Russia. Consequently, to get around the Bangladesh-Russia trade imbalance and mitigate against threatened US sanctions on Dhaka, the two sides are discussing the use of Indian Rupees rather than the Bangladesh Taka to settle their mutual trade volumes of about US$2 billion per annum.

Qatar, Russia, To Further Develop Energy Cooperation

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has met with Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin to discuss cooperation in energy and ways to develop this. Qatar owns 18.93 % of Rosneft while Russia and Qatar and amongst the worlds leading LNG exporters. Future Joint Ventures and investments can be expected by both parties.
